Arkane Lyon Working On New Game!

Story Highlights
  • Marvel’s Blade has been officially announced at The Game Awards 2023.
  • The title will be developed by Arkane Lyon in partnership with Marvel.
  • No release window or platform has been confirmed as of yet.

Rumors about an Arkane Studios announcement at The Game Awards 2023 were all over the internet yesterday. Most pointed at a sequel for either Dishonored or Deathloop, but to everyone’s surprise, this reveal turned out to be Marvel’s Blade.

Why it matters: Marvel aims to take games more seriously, and Arkane Lyon has a solid reputation with past games. Therefore, this collaboration could result in another groundbreaking superhero adaptation like Marvel’s Spider-Man.

Despite the excitement, we don’t exactly know anything specific about Marvel’s Blade yet. The game was shown with a cinematic trailer, showcasing an art style very reminiscent of Deathloop.

According to the description, this game will see players taking on the role of Blade. As expected, this narrative will be a mature single-player adventure set in the heart of Paris.

Arkane Lyon’s experience with games like Dishonored likely means the team is already familiar with melee combat, making it a good fit for this IP. Still, this reveal was quite surprising, and we certainly did not see it coming.

Despite Arkane Lyon’s reputation, a game like Blade could prove to be challenging. However, following the failure of Redfall, this adaptation could redeem the name of Arkane Studios, which was associated with high-quality games in the past.

Marvel’s Blade will mark the celebration of five decades of this character. In addition to this game, a standalone film based on the character is being worked on by Marvel. Therefore, this is a great opportunity for newcomers to explore the franchise before the game’s release.

The announcement did not include an official release date.

However, since Deathloop came out in 2021, Marvel’s Blade is likely to be in early development. Therefore, we do not expect this game to see the game anytime soon. However, if Arkane Lyon’s track record is anything to go by, the studio will not disappoint.
