Crimson Desert Made Small Comeback On Steam!

Story Highlight
  • Crimson Desert launched to “Mixed” reviews on Steam.
  • These reviews have improved gradually, and the game now has a “Mostly Positive” rating on the platform.
  • Some have even changed their negative review to positive today, claiming that the title becomes better as time goes on.

Crimson Desert became one of the most anticipated games of 2026 shortly before its release. Although the title ended up selling 2 million units in just 24 hours, its post-launch reception divided both players and critics.

On Steam, the game launched to a rating worse than that of Dragon Age Veilguard, but it seems players are now beginning to come around on the title. Crimson Desert’s Steam reviews have now improved to “Mostly Positive.”

Why it matters: It seems Pearl Abyss’ slow burn approach is working in the team’s favor since more and more gamers are beginning to appreciate what the title has to offer.

At the time of writing, around 73% of Crimson Desert’s 12,000+ reviews are positive on Steam. This means that close to 9,000 reviews are positive. This is quite the comeback since the title initially started out with “Mixed” reviews on Steam.

In the reviews section, some have specifically mentioned that they updated their review from negative to positive after spending more time with the game. In fact, Crimson Desert growing on people who spend more time on it seems to be a common theme in the reviews.

Other positive reviews have discussed the fact that the slower pace might initially dissuade players from enjoying the experience presented by Pearl Abyss. However, many argue that the title opens up a lot after a few hours.

Of course, not all recent reviews are positive. Some recent negative reviews reveal that gamers are still refunding Crimson Desert for various reasons, with many calling the experience hollow and devoid of purpose.
