- Chinese memory manufacturers were tipped to be the saviors of the RAM market.
- However, a local Chinese retailer listed 32GB DDR5 Ram at around $530.
- This is almost the same amount that popular retailers are charging for this capacity.
RAM prices are at their highest, no thanks to the global crisis led by the AI boom. However, Chinese manufacturers were one ray of hope, as many declared they could meet demand through surplus production of memory chips.
Unfortunately, the Chinese market has been affected as well, as the 32GB DDR5 RAM kit is now selling for over $500, almost the same as it is in the rest of the world. For context, these Chinese RAMs often use CXMT-made chips.
Why it matters: Because China has huge production capabilities, many considered them the savior for consumers as it would provide a cheaper solution for the global prices. However, that hope has shattered.

Chinese retailer JD.com has listed a 32 GB DDR5 6000MHz RAM kit at 3629 yuan, which converts to about $530. This is around the same price that popular vendors like Corsair, G.Skill, V-Color, and others are selling it for.
CXMT has huge production plants capable of delivering millions of wafers a month. But, it seems like they are also focused on catering to the AI demand, as that is much better for profits compared to the regular consumers.

The US even dropped its restrictions on Chinese memory producers, as they could’ve paved the way towards cheaper RAM. Now, considering that local prices are already this high, it might not make things any better globally.
So, for those considering importing Chinese RAMs, it is better to just get them from a more renowned brand, as you might be able to find better value getting something used locally. The hope for cheap Chinese memory seems to be gone.
