Bend Studios Live Service Title Made No Progress In 3 Years Says Ex-Dev, Cancellation Was Expected

Multiple Projects At The Studio Have Been Canned By Sony.

Story Highlight
  • An ex-dev working at Bend Studios revealed that the live-service project made limited progress in 3 years.
  • The animator revealed he could see the cancellation coming miles away.
  • Sony also cancelled other projects at the studio, including a sequel to Days Gone.

Sony’s live-service efforts are set to sail again next year with Marathon, a title that hasn’t had the hottest previews and already faces competition from Arc Raiders

Even with the success of Helldivers 2, most of Sony’s live-service projects have been cancelled, including the God of War title from Bluepoint and the one in production from Bend Studios. And, if you ask one of the devs working on the game, it was coming from miles away.

Why it matters: A studio as talented as this getting entangled in the web of live-service development and canning projects with actual potential is never good to see.

Days Gone Bend Studio live-service
Morisson revealed that the Days Gone dev had made little progress.

According to Robert Morrison on X, an animator who worked on the live-service Bend Studios title, the team did not make enough substantial progress in the 3 years of development. Hence, he could see the cancellation coming miles away with little to no important work done.

Bend Studios’ live-service IP was canned back in Januaryand the studio also underwent layoffs after this unsuccessful production. Other sources have also stated that an Uncharted revival was in the planning stage from the Days Gone dev before it started working on the live-service game.

Furthermore, Sony actually cancelled more than one title in development at Bend Studios, including a sequel to Days Gone, which the studio itself didn’t greenlight for some reason.

Bend Studios wanted to work on an Uncharted game, too.

Hence, the American developer has been through some troubling times, but it is already working on a new multiplayer title and trying to deliver something cool, as promised. Whatever the case, the cancelled Days Gone sequel and live-service title will remain as unrealized potential forever.
