Both Xbox and Sony have been trying to get a piece of the giant Chinese market for years. Comparatively, Sony has made great progress with its China Hero Project; it only recently launched a new phase to fund a slew of new titles and secure them under its umbrella. 

Now, Xbox is also about to push the initiative to strengthen its grip on the Chinese industry. The company is hiring for the China Business Development Lead role to ‘build, maintain, and foster relationships’ with new and existing gaming partners in the region.

Why it matters: The new job listing has many fans excited regarding potential plans Xbox might have for the Chinese market, as it is practically a goldmine filled with local talent still waiting to be explored. 

Xbox is currently hiring for the China Business Development Lead role to foster relationships with local developers.

The job listing wants the new lead to ‘land new partnerships and extend existing ones’ to ensure that Microsoft’s presence in China can grow and result in new games. Therefore, the role will also serve as a project manager for various Xbox gaming initiatives.

The role also includes supporting Microsoft’s ID@Xbox program, alongside taking part in discussions and agreements with Chinese studios to bring their games over to Xbox, Game Pass, and Windows platforms.

As part of our team, you will lead business development activities with gaming publishers and developers in the region.

Xbox is also collaborating with LG to bring cloud gaming to select cars.

Microsoft has pushed to increase its presence in the wider Asian gaming scene before by buying studios like Tango Gameworks. According to the job listing, stepping into the Chinese market seems to be its next major goal.
