Concord Doesn’t Deserve To Be Remebered As The Greatest Flop of All Time, Says Ex Dev

"I Don't Feel Like It Deserves That"

Story Highlight
  • Concord was taken offline just two weeks after launch. According to a report, it cost Sony $400 million to develop.
  • It was hailed as the biggest failure in the history of gaming.
  • However, one of its former developers believes the game shouldn’t be remembered as the greatest flop of all time.

Concord was released almost a year ago, but just two weeks after launch, the game was taken offline. Those who had purchased it were refunded, and its story came to an abrupt end. Some reports suggested that the game resulted in a massive $400 million loss, potentially making it one of the biggest failures in gaming history.

That would certainly mark a tremendous setback for the gaming giant, but one of the game’s former developers disagrees. He believes Concord doesn’t deserve to be remembered as the biggest flop of all time.

Why it matters: Concord had been facing criticism long before its release, so its failure felt almost inevitable, but few expected the game’s budget to be this high.

Concord’s developer previously said they will always be proud of their work.

On the latest episode of the A Life Well Wasted podcast, one of the former developers of Concord shared his thoughts on the game being labelled as the greatest flop of all time. He believes the game doesn’t deserve that title.

Greatest flop of all time – I don’t feel like it deserves that.

Another developer expressed that gamers missed out, simply because not many had the chance to play it before it was inevitably taken offline just a couple of weeks after launch. He added that since people will now never get the opportunity to experience the game, they missed out in a big way.

He summed up his feelings by calling Concord “the most beautiful car we’ve ever crashed.”

The game received heavy criticism, and several reports claim it cost a massive amount of money, making it a strong contender for the biggest flop in gaming history.
