- Analysts say that Switch 2 doesn’t use DLSS because Nintendo’s engine is outdated.
- They say that Nintendo is ‘Slow and behind’ the competition, and it needs to work on it.
- Nintendo should upgrade its engine to support DLSS for future first-party titles.
The Nintendo Switch 2 has been available for almost two months now and has received decent overall reviews. It even became Japan’s fastest-selling console ever; however, some issues have been highlighted by analysts.
Before the launch, it was claimed that most of the Switch 2 games would use DLSS for better performance and visuals. However, that is mostly non-existent, and analysts state that this is because Nintendo is ‘Slow and behind’ others.
Why it matters: Instead of DLSS, Switch 2 uses the much inferior FSR1. It may be effective in certain areas, but the technology is now outdated and doesn’t hold its own against DLSS and even the newer FSR versions.
Digital Foundry recently released a video revealing why the Switch 2’s first-party games don’t use DLSS. They state that the in-game engine that the company uses is outdated and doesn’t support modern tech like DLSS and advanced anti-aliasing.
I think they are slow and behind on it (DLSS and modern tech), and we will eventually probably start to see it in the future

While AA is used somewhat, it is very basic, and FSR is the primary upscaling software. Analysts say this is because Nintendo is slow and behind the competition, and if it wants to catch up, it’ll have to upgrade its engine.

Current first-party games run fine, but if they want future titles to do the same, DLSS implementation will be important. It does seem that it will happen in the future, considering Cyberpunk 2077 does already support DLSS on Switch 2.
So, eventually Nintendo will have to update its first-party exclusives with Nvidia’s upscaler as well. Switch 2 is a lot powerful than its last iteration, but to make full use of the power, Nintendo has to update a lot of things.
