Cronos: The New Dawn is shaping up to be one of the most appealing horror entries we’ve seen recently. While many fans of the horror genre are excited to eradicate some mutated orphans, some are also concerned due to the game’s choice of a female protagonist.
Now, the director of Cronos, Jacket Zieba, says that the title’s main character is a woman because that is simply ‘more interesting.’ He clarifies that a female protagonist in some strange suit in a sci-fi setting just sounds cooler than having another male one.
Why it matters: Cronos: The New Dawn may cause controversy in the wider gaming scene due to its female protagonist, but the developers assure that there are no political agendas that would detract from the game’s dark and deep narrative.
In an interview with GamesRadar, the director also swears to God that no feminist agenda is involved in choosing a female protagonist for Cronos. The traveler is a woman with high tolerance to gore and fleshy monsters without political agendas that hinder gameplay.

Bloober Team chose a female protagonist because it supports the main story ‘and all the many aspects of it.’ The game will support the feeling of the player being alienated and learning about humanity.
Cronos: The New Dawn launches in the third or fourth quarter of 2025 on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and possibly Switch 2.
