Red Dead Redemption 2 Reportedly Launching on Nintendo Switch 2 This Year

Next-Gen Update For PS5 and Xbox Series X Also Planned!

Story Highlight
  • Reports suggest Red Dead Redemption 2 will get a next-gen update and a Switch 2 port this year.
  • Fans have long been yearning for a 60FPS patch.
  • Beyond this, a next-gen port/remaster of GTA 4 and Max Payne 3 is also expected for this year.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is almost seven years old now, but it still looks and performs better than current-gen games. Despite its massive success and 74 million units sold, Rockstar neglected the game with no DLCs, abandoned the online mode, and released no next-gen patch.

Fortunately, reports have emerged that Red Dead Redemption 2 will receive its long-awaited next-gen update alongside a Switch 2 port later this year.

Why it matters: Red Dead Redemption 2 continues to outsell modern releases. However, a lack of next-gen upgrades keeps the game from delivering a true gameplay experience.

Gamereactor reported that sources close to Rockstar suggest a Switch 2 port and a patch for Xbox Series and PS5 consoles could arrive as early as later this year. Though not simultaneously, the update and port could come at different times.

Recently, Take-Two confirmed that it plans to release four new iterations of its existing titles this fiscal year. Beyond Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA 4 and Max Payne 3 are also expected to receive new-gen ports/remasters.

With the Nintendo Switch 2’s hardware, running Red Dead Redemption 2 on the handheld won’t be a problem. After all, the console is already seen to run Cyberpunk 2077 and Hogwarts Legacy.

Fans have been yearning for a 60FPS patch ever since the next-gen consoles arrived, and the 30FPS currently doesn’t do justice to the power these consoles can output. Even GTA 5 received an enhanced edition for Xbox Series and PS5 consoles, making it feel unfair that Red Dead Redemption 2 never got the same treatment.

With GTA 6 delayed to next year, a Red Dead Redemption 2 next-gen upgrade and Switch 2 port will likely ease the wait alongside the other potential remasters and ports Rockstar has decided on before the current fiscal year ends.
