- The second trailer for GTA 6 was captured on PS5, hinting that Sony and Rockstar have a marketing deal.
- It is set to launch globally on May 26, 2026.
The world’s single most anticipated entertainment product right now is Rockstar’s GTA 6. The hype around the action adventure game is such that it has become a phenomenon itself in pop culture before the title has even launched.
Following the first trailer for GTA 6 in 2023, fans have been clamoring for another look at the most anticipated game in history. Rockstar finally obliged today with a brand new trailer that also hinted at a special deal with PlayStation.
Why it matters: PlayStation striking an exclusive marketing deal with GTA 6 will be highly detrimental for Xbox.
At the end of the GTA 6 trailer 2, you can see a few PlayStation logos, including one that says the trailer was captured on the base PS5. Many believe this placement may hint at a partnership between PlayStation and Rockstar to market the upcoming title.
To be clear, none of the parties involved has made such a statement regarding GTA 6. However, a marketing deal between the two for GTA 6 is the likeliest possibility when considering industry norms. Statements like that only appear at the end of major reveals when some strategy is in place.
Furthermore, considering how GTA 6 will only drop on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles next year, the marketing ploy makes a lot more sense as the former is miles ahead of Xbox in sales, which wasn’t promoted in the trailer.
The gaming industry was dumbfounded to learn last week that GTA 6 will not be launching this year, but rather on May 26, 2026, a tidbit the trailer confirmed. Despite the reasoning, most of the gaming world went into crisis mode, calling the delay a nightmare for the industry.
But, with GTA 6 set to be a revolutionary title with a generational leap in aspects like police systems and AI, making fans wait a little bit isn’t too unfair an ask.
