The Assassin’s Creed franchise is seeing a new beginning with Shadows, the latest mainline release that debuted after a five-year hiatus. Shadows is just the beginning, as Ubisoft plans to flood the franchise with more entries.
Ubisoft’s next venture will be towards a spin-off multiplayer title, a territory they’ve previously explored but failed. However, according to a reputable insider, the new Assassin’s Creed Invictus is poised to try something new and is set for release this year.
Why it matters: With such a draught in the series in the past few years, fans will appreciate newer entries. Moreover, spin-off Assassin’s Creed titles have always been fun, and it’s exciting to see what Ubisoft tries with a multiplayer entry.
Assassin’s Creed Invictus‘s launch will mark the franchise’s first dual release in a year since 2014 when Ubisoft launched Assassin’s Unity and Rogue.
While official information on the codename Invictus is scarce, a previous report suggested that the title will take a Fall Guys-esque approach. The game will feature multiple modes, such as Team Deathmatch, a speed game mode, and much more.
Moreover, Invictus will pit each of the 16 players in each match against themselves. Like in the Smash Bros. games, the game will also feature a power shield. Fan-favorite characters like Ezio and Cesare Borgia will also appear alongside maps from past entries.
Job listings have suggested that Invictus is the most innovative multiplayer game in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. The current title represents the game’s codename, as an official title will be given before release.
If the French publisher decides to hold a showcase, more details on the title may be revealed in the upcoming Ubisoft Forward.
