Insomniac To Continue Making Story-Driven Games Amid Sony's Live-Service Push!

Story Highlight
  • The Insomniac CEO has said that the studio decided to double down on story-based action games.
  • The founder also doesn’t think the budget issue is a permanent one.
  • According to Ted Price, studios should figure out why games cost so much instead of throwing their hands up.

Story-driven games have become a forte of the PlayStation brand, which is also why the company’s recent live-service push confused fans.

One of the studios behind Sony’s exclusive catalog is Insomniac, which the company recently bought. The American developer has created hit after hit for Sony, and according to its founder, the frequency of these action-adventure games will only increase.

Why it matters: The strength of Insomniac lies in making story-based, character-driven games with soul, so it’s good to see that the studio won’t be working on more live-service slop.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was a massive commercial and critical success

While talking to Game File in a new interview, Insomniac Games CEO and founder Ted Price revealed that his best decision as head of the studio was to double down on story-driven character action titles. Price said this was a collective decision that Insomniac made recently and will result in even more heartfelt games like Marvel’s Spider-Man.

Further ahead in the interview, the CEO also talked about the inflating budgets plaguing AAA titles all around the globe. The Insomniac founder stressed that studios must tackle rising game costs instead of giving up, believing every problem, including this one, has a solution.

A collective decision that I think we have made as a team, and that is to double down on the story-driven character action games ”

Overall, it’s good to hear that Insomniac will work on even more story-driven titles now, as some potential projects like Sunset Overdrive 2 and Resistance 4 were shot down at the studio in the past. With a Wolverine game hopefully coming soon and an exciting Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 in the works, the studio has a bright future ahead.
