Avowed Hits 5.9 Million Players In First Month, Surpassing Indiana Jones

Avowed Has Performed Nicely Despite Controversies!

Story Highlight
  • Avowed has reportedly hit 5.9 million players during its first month, surpassing the Indiana Jones game in the process.
  • The data projection counts both the paid and the Game Pass players, suggesting the RPG has done decently despite controversies.
  • It is still behind Black Ops 6, which boasts a staggering 26.2 million estimated figures, as you would expect.

Ever since its release, Avowed has been praised for featuring fun magic-based combat filled with a large world to explore, although many have raised their voices against the static world full of boring NPCs. This has led to some notable comparisons with Elder Scrolls games.

Despite all the varying opinions, the game appears to have done better than everyone expected. The RPG reportedly hit 5.9 million players during its launch month, surpassing Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which only saw 4 million players.

Why it matters: Avowed was criticized for its poor gameplay and static world. However, it has still performed better than expected in terms of total players.

Obsidian is Already Focusing On What’s Next After The Recent RPG Release

This interesting tidbit is based on the report by mindGAME, which has counted data from sources like the Xbox Game Pass users, Steam active players, the game’s search volume, video content engagement, and the like to form an estimated projection.

Avowed only saw about 20K daily active players on Steam after its eventful launch, which could be because of Game Pass. That means a majority of these 5.9 million players might have tried out the game on the subscription service or Xbox Series X|S consoles.

While Avowed is outpacing Indiana Jones by a notable margin, Black Ops 6 cleans the floor with 26.2 million estimated players during its first month—an unfair comparison for sure.

Avowed
Avowed has a lot of jankiness and a world that does not react to you.

Obsidian is quite pleased with Avowed’s sales so far, claiming players ‘raved’ about it. We’re also expected to see DLCs or sequels, but no concrete plans exist yet. Moreover, the studio wants to develop Pillars of Eternity Tactics after dealing with Avowed.

Do you think Avowed has performed better than we all expected, or is this data projecting a way too positive of a number? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
