Sony has faced a lot of criticism for its practices on PC since the start of this generation especially the PSN requirement for its first-party titles. Even though the Japanese giant seemingly learned its lesson and made this requirement unnecessary some games are still facing issues.
Lost Soul Aside, the upcoming action RPG being published by Sony is set to hit PC and PlayStation on the same day. However, not every country is able to purchase the title on Steam and it seems like the reason behind this is once again PSN.
Why This Matters: Sony’s antics with PSN on PC are going to hurt its sales on the platform, which the company can’t afford after recent failures.
According to SteamDB, Lost Soul Aside is currently unavailable in over 130 countries, all of which lack PSN. The game is not tied to the Sony service and you aren’t required to have an account to play the RPG. But, that is worthless when the title is not even showing to regions on Steam without PSN.
Hence, if players want to play Lost Soul Aside they have to make another Steam account associated with a country that has official PSN support. This is a counterintuitive move from Sony as the company just recently made the PlayStation Network redundant on PC.
And, it’s basically alienating over 130 markets by completely blocking the game from regions without PSN. Something similar happened to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 which was region-locked in countries that didn’t support the network. However, many thought this wouldn’t happen again after Sony permanently abolished this status quo.
Lost Soul Aside is set to launch on May 30 for PC and PlayStation 5 so there is some time for the Japanese giant to get rid of this annoying problem. And, if Sony wants the action RPG to succeed on PC and not meet the same mediocre fate as Spider-Man 2, it better act quickly.
