Many Micro Center Stores Got Less Than 5 RTX 5090 Units At Launch

The RTX 5090 Looks Like A Paper Launch!

Story Highlight
  • Finally launched, the RTX 5090 is in short supply throughout Micro Center stores within the US.
  • Some stores only have 4 units in stock, while the RTX 5090 is unavailable in Micro Center stores in cities like Chicago.
  • On the other hand, the RTX 5080 seems to be in good supply, but reviews suggest that the GPU isn’t worth the upgrade from its predecessor.

Nvidia’s highly anticipated Blackwell GPU has finally launched. Despite its underwhelming reviews and performance, users are still eager to get their hands on the GPUs.

However, getting hands-on with Nvidia’s flagship is proving quite a problem. The RTX 5090 is scarce in Micro Center stores throughout the U.S. In a few stores, less than five units are available.

Why It Matters: For such a flagship lineup, Nvidia doesn’t produce many units of the RTX 5090. This will promote scalping for the GPU, which will raise prices for an already expensive GPU.

Getting Hands On The RTX 5090 Will Be Quite Tough

While the Tustin store has 67 units available, other stores within major cities like Brooklyn have only 4 units available for sale.

On the other hand, Micro Center stores in Chicago don’t even have RTX 5090 units available, which is quite disappointing.

Prior to the launch, people were already camping in front of Micro Center stores. Although the base GPU retails for $2000 (an additional $200-300 is charged to third-party vendors), pre-orders were already being sold for a whopping $6000.

The RTX 5090 was already said to be quite tight at launch, setting strict requirements for the purchase of the GPU. However, the complete absence of the GPU across multiple stores seems quite severe.

The next GPU in the RTX lineup, the RTX 5080, seems to be available in abundance across all stores.

However, the RTX 5080 seems like a flute and performs even worse than its predecessor, the RTX 4080 Super.

Do you think the RTX 5090’s native performance increase of 27% at 4k over the RTX 4090 makes it a worthy GPU to buy at such a high price tag and in such a limited supply? Let us know in the comments below or visit the official Tech4Gamers Forum.
