- WB Games and Rocksteady are apparently developing a remake of Batman: Arkham Asylum.
- This rumor comes from YouTuber Vara Dark, who previously broke the news of Rocksteady layoffs.
- Shpeshal_Nick also hinted recently that a new Batman title is in development
Warner Bros. Games hasn’t had an easy time with DC titles in recent years, with its major AAA releases like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Gotham Knights not doing particularly well sales-wise.
With Rocksteady’s return to the Batman Arkham universe also not working out, the status of the DC IPs has been up in the air at WB. But rumors suggest that the studio might be remaking one of its most popular titles, Batman: Arkham Asylum, in a bid to return to its glory days.
Why it matters: Remaking Batman: Arkham Asylum is a desperate attempt to return to success for a sinking studio like Rocksteady.
This rumor originates from YouTuber Vara Dark, who posted on X about her sources saying that a remake of the 2009 adventure title has been greenlit internally and is in the works. According to the YouTuber, this source was right about the company laying off employees recently; hence, this rumor has some backing.
In addition, she also stated that Warner Bros. is planning this reunion with the game’s original cast. Back in September, popular insider Shpeshal_Nick also shared on X that Rocksteady is internally working on a new Batman game.
Many people consider Black Arkham Asylum one of the greatest titles ever made, with its sequel, Arkham City, garnering even more praise.
So, remaking the adventure game does feel like nostalgia baiting, but with the company losing more than half of its staff in the recent layoffs and releasing a financial and critical failure like Suicide Squad, maybe some cheap nostalgia baiting is required to secure its future.
