X3D Turbo Mode Is A Game Changer!

X3D turbo is a new mode that is announced by Gigabyte today. This is a new BIOS-specific method that is available with a new setting that AMD will bring to all Ryzen within AM5. According to the information, the turbo mode increases the performance of the Ryzen Chips almost by 35%.

The X3D turbo mode is not going to be exclusive to one brand. AMD will bring this technology to the market. Every manufacturer will implement this to their motherboard BIOS/UEFI. This way everyone can take advantage of the 35% uplift in performance.

Why it matters: The latest Zen 5-based AMD Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs, which have not yet been released, will benefit from this performance gain, while it is not exclusive to them.

AMD X3D Turbo The function of this new turbo mode is to boost the weakest aspect of all X3Ds like frequency and latency with memory.

The Zen 4-based Ryzen 7000X3D CPUs and Ryzen 9000 non-X3D chips will also be compatible with the feature. However, some claim that SMT is disabled. Other than that the memory bandwidth is increased due to an optimization with the IMC and certain timings.

There are other users which claim that they had an frequency increase. This tells us that the Ryzen processor without 3D V-Cache obtains some of the advantages but not all.

In this tweet we can see that the performance is increased by 5% in some games, which is nice as no consumption seem to be affected.

If our understanding of how this X3D Turbo Mode operates is correct, it will be equally straightforward and, ideally, equally successful, especially if it is free. The BIOS patch AGESA version 1.2.0.2 for the X3D turbo mode is expected to release before the launch of Ryzen 9000x3D series.
