In recent weeks, a few leaks have been reported on the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 3D V-Cache CPU, revealing information regarding its specifications and overall performance in gaming and apps.

Why it matters: The upcoming launch is particularly crucial as it coincides with Intel’s Core Ultra 200S “Arrow Lake” series, which is set to debut just days before. This puts pressure on AMD to ensure that the 9800X3D lives up to its promises.

According to wjm47196, a member of the Chiphell Forum, the retail launch of the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 3D V-Cache CPU is scheduled for the first week of November.

This indicates that AMD is optimistic that the new 3D V-Cache component can compete with Intel’s Core Ultra 200S “Arrow Lake” lineup, which is scheduled to launch on October 24.

In terms of specs, the Ryzen 9800X3D is expected to have an all-core boost clock of up to 5.2 GHz, which is faster than the 7800X3D’s 5.0 GHz single-core frequency. Furthermore, the single-core frequency is expected to be 500 MHz higher than the 9700X, which is rated at 5.5 GHz.

The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D will also come equipped with 8 cores, 16 threads, 32 MB of L3, and 64 MB 3D V-Cache SRAM for a total of 96 MB of cache and an extra 8 MB of L2 cache, bringing the total size to 104 MB.

Based on new information recently revealed, AMD’s Ryzen 9800X3D processor might not provide the significant gaming performance boost that several leaks have previously indicated.

The Ryzen 9800X3D outperformed its predecessor in Far Cry 6 by 11%. The difference in performance is much less negligible in games like Black Myth: Wukong (where the 9800X3D scored only 2% higher) and Shadow of the Tomb Raider (where the difference is only 4%).
