4th Fresh Start For Halo Devs!

Story Highlight
  • A reliable leaker has stated that a sequel to Halo Infinite was being developed by 343 Industries.
  • However, Microsoft later scrapped the project as it wanted a fresh start for the series with Unreal Engine 5.
  •  The report also revealed that the campaign team didn’t get much support from the new leadership.

Halo is one of the most beloved franchises in gaming history. However, the latest game in the series, Halo Infinite, received a lot of criticism at the start. While the game made a comeback, it still didn’t live up to the ‘Halo legacy.’

Regardless, fans were excited about a new title in the series, which was rumoured to be a sequel to Halo Infinite. While the fandom was excited, it seems like Xbox has scrapped the sequel in favour of a fresh start with Unreal Engine 5

Why it matters: 343 Industries was recently rebranded to Halo Studios, and the developer is shifting from Slipspace to Unreal Engine 5.

One of the most reliable Halo leakers, Rebs Gaming, recently revealed that a sequel to Halo Infinite was in development, but Xbox cancelled the project. He revealed that the team was already working on the sequel with the help of the Silpspace engine, and it was continued until the new leadership took over.

343 Industries began work on Halo Infinite 2 in the Slipspace engine. Development continued until new leadership took over in late 2022 and that new team decided to switch to Unreal Engine 5

The new team decided to switch to UE5, forcing the creative team to shift to the new engine. However, as per the leaker, Microsoft laid off the entire creative team in January 2023, and this project was completely scrapped.

The leaker revealed that Project Tatanka was also being developed alongside the sequel, but both were cancelled to create a new direction for the franchise. As of now, it is unclear whether the Halo Infinite sequel was shifted to the UE5 or what Project Tatanka is.

The report from Rebs also revealed that the new leadership never supported the campaign team. The team felt trapped in a bubble, so it seems like the situation was pretty worse internally.

Fans have also shown some concerns regarding the recent staff changes in the Halo franchise. Also, the shift to UE5 highlights that a PS5 launch for the future game seems imminent.
