Recently, it was claimed that Ubisoft offered YouTubers VIP Disneyland trips to earn favors for the game. The publisher is also being accused of using bots to create excitement for Star Wars Outlaws.
Why it matters: Modern social media platforms are plagued with bots. These can also be used to influence public opinion in an unfair manner, making this practice quite despised.
According to a Twitter user who shared an entire set of comments on a post, the majority of them are being led by bots. The user has shown that these bots have commented on posts about Star Wars Outlaws.
The source has even created a video to expose these bots. Interestingly, a number of these accounts also have blue ticks, which is a worrying sign for the platform’s credibility, considering how bot-influenced it has become.
Anyhow, this raises many questions about Star Wars Outlaws. We already know that the game will have a huge fan base, considering it belongs to a big franchise, but the use of bots isn’t the best move.
Ubisoft revealed that Star Wars Outlaws has the largest marketing budget of all its games. However, relying on bots suggests a lack of confidence from the company’s side.
If the title is actually good, people will play it themselves. With many previews saying that Star Wars Outlaws marks a new take on the open-world formula, there’s already enough reason to be excited.
