Halo Coming Back With Huge Remakes!

Story Highlight
  • A report outlines remakes for the original Halo trilogy.
  • 343 Industries is handling the remakes, with the team looking to incorporate modern elements like sprint.
  • Xbox is going the remake route to extract the most revenue possible from PlayStation users.

The Halo franchise is no stranger to re-releases, but the series has not adopted to the trend of remakes yet. Following Halo: The Master Chief Collection’s launch on Xbox and PC, there is still demand for more classic gameplay.

With 343 Industries moving away from this collection and potentially working on the next major project, recent reports have hinted at a classic remake accompanying the next big release. According to an insider, Xbox is looking to remake the whole trilogy.

Why it matters: Halo Infinite had a lot of potential at release but failed to be the huge title that this series needed. A remake could lead to renewed interest from the fandom, effectively saving the franchise from its current state.

Halo Has Yet To Receive A Full Ground-Up Remake

The latest report comes from Technical Halo, an insider who has previously leaked information on various projects related to the series.

In a recent report, he states that Xbox is no longer interested in porting the series to PS5. The gaming giant has decided to remake the first three games, with all three projects being based on Unreal Engine 5.

These remakes serve the purpose of bringing the IP to PlayStation in a grand way. It is said that 343 Industries has full control of the remakes, but the studio will also rely on contractors and support teams.

Interestingly, the remakes are said to incorporate modern gameplay elements from the recent entries.

These include sprint and clamber, hinting that the remakes could be vastly different compared to their original counterparts. While this may seem concerning, Halo Infinite proved to be a solid middle-ground between classic and modern gameplay.

Therefore, 343 Industries may find a similar balance for the trilogy remakes.

Needless to say, these are huge revelations and could change Halo as we know it.

While a PlayStation release on its own is a massive deal, remakes of the original trilogy could end up being just what this series needs to claw its way back to the top of the first-person shooter market.
