  • Take-Two Interactive confirms that the game has sold over 5 million units in the last three months.
  • The franchise has reached a total of 420 million units in sales.

GTA 5 has recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, but the game is showing no sign of stopping even a decade later.

With millions logging into GTA Online each month and new buyers playing the game across different generations, it is no surprise that Take-Two has announced another successful quarter for the game. GTA 5 has now sold over 195 million units.

Why it matters: This Grand Theft Auto entry was always considered a revolutionary game in multiple ways, so its success as Rockstar Games’ best release is quite fitting.

During the latest Take-Two Interactive earnings report, it was announced that GTA 5 has sold 5 million units in the last three months since the last report was published.

In November, the publisher confirmed 190 million units sold for the game. This has also driven up the total sales of this franchise, bringing it up to 420 million, a significant moment for this celebrated IP.

With games like GTA 4, San Andreas, and Vice City, there is no shortage of iconic games in the series. However, among the rich lineup of open-world games, GTA 5 has proven to be special for the developer.

Nearly half of the total sales come from this entry, showing its relevance and impact on the entire industry. This also makes it one of the best-selling games of all time, with much of the credit for its success going to GTA Online.

This live service mode was undoubtedly ahead of its time. Over ten years later, the game mode has been transformed into a completely difference experience compared to its launch counterpart, showcasing GTA 5’s evolution.

GTA 5 Offers Various Heists In Story Mode

Not too long ago, Take-Two made over $72 million from GTA Online earnings, proving its value as the most significant part of the publisher’s lineup.

Five million units sold in the last three months is a massive achievement for GTA 5, highlighting why the sixth entry took so long to come out.

However, with GTA 6 now scheduled to arrive in 2025, the industry is ready for an even bigger title from Rockstar Games. This game has already won multiple awards, making it the biggest release in 2025.
