Budget GeForce RTX 3050 6GB Arriving In February; Costs $180

Another Poor Launch!

New leaks about the upcoming budget-friendly graphics card from Nvidia have surfaced. The company reportedly plans to launch the GeForce RTX 3050 6GB in February 2024.

This means that around five GPUs will be released in the coming days, with three of them being Super variants of the GeForce RTX 4000 series and one exclusive GPU, the GeForce RTX 4090 D, for the Chinese market.

The new budget option will replace Nvidia’s existing GeForce RTX 3050, effectively serving as a downgrade due to the reduction in VRAM.

According to early speculations, the MSRP of the upcoming GeForce RTX 3050 6GB is expected to be in the sub-$ $200 category, with a price tag of $180. Additionally, the use of 6GB memory implies that the GeForce RTX 3050 might be limited to a 96-bit memory bus.

Compared to the 8GB model, which had 2,560 CUDA Cores, the GeForce RTX 3050 6GB will offer 2,048 CUDA Cores. Combining the 20% lower core count with the smaller memory pool, this GPU will be a noticeable downgrade over the existing budget graphics card.

At $180, the budget option will compete with the likes of the Radeon RX 6600 and Intel Arc A750. Judging by the cutdown specifications, Nvidia’s offering will be the worst of the bunch, but its market control might mean that this does not matter in the long run.

This release could also become an excuse for Nvidia to launch a 50-series card in the Ada-Lovelace lineup. While a GeForce RTX 4050 is not rumored for now, it could compete against the GeForce RTX 3060 in the future.

The 6GB GPU appears to be another disappointing product from Nvidia. Despite being priced $40 lower than its predecessor, the graphics card is shaping up to be incapable of playing anything more than e-sports and older games.

Nvidia might not even send out review samples for this GPU since the company has relied on stealth launches for its worst offerings in the past.
