Modern Warfare 3 User Score Drops To 1.5 After Review Bombs

Review Bombed Immediately After Launch!

Story Highlights
  • Modern Warfare 3 user reviews were opened recently on Metacritic.
  • The game has already received over 200 user reviews and a score of 1.5
  • It has also become the worst-rated title on Metacritic in Call of Duty’s history.

While Modern Warfare 2 had the biggest franchise launch on Steam and PlayStation last year, the latest entry in the franchise, Modern Warfare 3, has failed to continue this momentum.

The game has not been well received by fans and critics, as Modern Warfare 3 scored 56/100 on Metacritic. Following these scores, the platform opened user reviews, and this has led to another wave of negative reviews for Modern Warfare 3.

Why it matters: Nearly every game faces review bombing in one way or another. However, in this case, the critic and user scores are not too far apart.

At the time of writing, Modern Warfare 3 has an overwhelmingly low score of 1.5 based on over 200 user reviews. The recurring criticisms of the game have to do with its lackluster campaign, repetitive multiplayer content, and DLC-like nature.

Various users have also mentioned the game’s poor UI, leveling system, and its $70 price tag. However, some have acknowledged that the developers are not to blame for this mess since the game was created in just 16 months.

The fact that 2023 has been flooded with high-quality games has likely made it even worse for Call of Duty. While the franchise has usually maintained a consistent level of quality, its glaring faults are made even more obvious compared to other great titles in 2023.

As unfortunate as the trend of review bombing is, this outcome is not really surprising.

Even before its release, Metacritic users had begun to review bomb 2011’s Modern Warfare 3. Therefore, the stage was already set for Call of Duty to receive harsh reactions once user reviews were allowed on the platform.

For all of its flaws, Modern Warfare 3 is far from a 0/10 or 1/10, as these reviews suggest. Still, Activision should use this release to learn a valuable lesson and offer better products at launch moving forward.
