Alan Wake 2 Was Delayed To Avoid Big Releases Like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Delayed By 10 Days To Avoid Competition!

Remedy Entertainment has put its heart and soul into Alan Wake 2, and the game is ready to be released next month. However, the studio recently announced a small delay, pushing the game back by 10 days to October 27.

Previously, it was set to release on October 17, but the studio decided to delay it to ensure Alan Wake 2 receives the attention it deserves. According to Remedy Entertainment, the game was delayed to avoid big releases like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Why it matters: October is packed with numerous high-quality releases in a year with no shortage of great games. This makes it incredibly difficult for games to avoid unnecessary competition.

During a recent interview with IGN, Sam Lake from Remedy Entertainment was asked about the reason for the small delay to Alan Wake 2. He replied:

“We were looking at these brilliant games coming out, Spider-Man 2 and all, and just felt we don’t have to go neck to neck.”

The Creative Director of Remedy Entertainment pointed to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in particular. Insomniac Games’ sequel to the popular franchise has been anticipated for nearly two years since its reveal in 2021.

However, October also has offerings like Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Forza Motorsport, and Super Mario Bros Wonder. Had Alan Wake 2 been released on October 17, it would have directly competed with Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Mario and Spider-Man are established IPs riding the incredible success of recent gaming entries. Alan Wake 2, on the other hand, has a more challenging launch ahead after the somewhat lukewarm reception of Alan Wake Remastered.

Therefore, this decision from Remedy Entertainment makes a lot of sense.

Alan Wake 2

Previously, the Alan Wake 2 Director joked about potential clashes with Red Dead Redemption, asking Rockstar Games to avoid releasing the rumored remaster on October 17.

Like Remedy Entertainment, Ubisoft may have been looking to avoid competition for Assassin’s Creed Mirage. The game’s release date was recently brought forward to October 5.

Alan Wake 2 is the most important project for Remedy Entertainment, so it makes sense that the studio is taking extra care to allow the survival horror game to shine. Nonetheless, October is exciting for the gaming industry, perhaps the best month of the year.
