The Elder Scrolls 4 Remake Reportedly In Development

Oblivion Remake Before Elder Scrolls 6!

The Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion is nearly two decades old. It was considered a massive technical achievement for Bethesda Game Studios, quickly becoming one of the most successful Western RPGs after release.

While The Elder Scrolls franchise remains popular to this day, a new game has not been released since Skyrim in 2011. The Elder Scrolls 6 has already been announced, but the game is expected to take several more years before it is ready.

However, a recent leak hints at a remake before a brand-new Elder Scrolls game.

Why it matters: Bethesda Game Studios has already remastered Skyrim, releasing it on several platforms after its initial run in 2011. Therefore, the developer may be looking to take a similar approach to Oblivion.

A recent Reddit user claimed to be a former employee of Virtuos Games. In a now-deleted post, the user claimed that the studio is currently working on a remake or remaster of The Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion.

According to the information, the remake is titled Altar, and it is based on a pairing system. This means that the project is using both Unreal Engine 5 and the existing engine of the original game.

However, Virtuos Games has not decided if the project should be a full remake or a remaster. The former would make it more ambitious and lead to an early 2025 release. However, the source claims it could be released in 2024 if the studio decides to pursue a remaster.

While it is best to take this information with a grain of salt, mods on Reddit claim to have verified the information about the user’s claims of working at Virtuos Games.

Since games like Indiana Jones and Starfield are Xbox console exclusives, the leak could mean that the potential remake or remaster will receive similar treatment. In the past, Xbox has hinted at exclusivity for Bethesda games.
