Tekken 8 is arguably the most anticipated fighting game in recent years. While the developers have shown plenty of footage already, they have claimed the graphics will continue to improve, leading to even more excitement.
Bandai Namco conducted a closed network test on PS5 last week. The test is now available on PC, but it has disappointed audiences. As reported by DSOgaming, the game show terrible shader compilation stutters.
This could mean Tekken 8 might be another poor PC port in 2023 or 2024. Unsurprisingly, this issue does not exist on the PS5 version.
Why it matters: The PC version was the go-to choice of many Tekken 7 players. However, the shader compilation stutter could make the upcoming title unplayable for new and returning Tekken fans.
In addition to the source, another video shows the game running on a GeForce RTX 3060 and Ryzen 7 5800H.
The stuttering is visible and happens in nearly every new animation. Since the game contains a massive roster and thousands of different animations, it would take several days to fully compile shaders in this scenario.
According to the report, Tekken 8 also stutters on high-end hardware. The game was tested with a Ryzen 9 7950X3D and GeForce RTX 4090. While it performs well overall, the shader compilation stutter ruins the experience.
Since fighting games require precise inputs and timing, a single stutter can be detrimental to the gameplay experience. Therefore, it would be best for Bandai Namco to consider solutions to the problem.
Fortunately, the problem can be solved through the compilation of all shaders during the first boot. Various games have implemented this solution, and it would also work well for Tekken 8.
Games like Dead Space have shown similar stutters in 2023. Additionally, releases like The Last of Us Part 1 and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor have been poorly received on PC due to poor optimization.
In its current state, Tekken 8 is heading in a similar direction. However, the game is still far from release, providing Bandai Namco plenty of time to fix the PC port before the game is available worldwide.
