Tencent Becomes Majority Shareholder!

The developers of the nearly decade-old Dying Light franchise have announced they are teaming up with Tencent. The recently announced deal will make Tencent the majority shareholder of the studio.

Why this matters:  This partnership will help Techland reach new heights, as Tencent already has a history of teaming up with many companies.

The latest update from the CEO of Techland, Paweł Marchewka, has confirmed this partnership between Tencent and Techland. He stated:

“Teaming up with Tencent will allow us to move full speed ahead with the execution of the vision for our games.”

He further stated that Tencent is a great ally that has helped many gaming companies while respecting their ways of doing things. Therefore, fans of Techland’s work should not be worried about the partnership.

The CEO confirmed that Techland would retain ownership of IPs like Dying Light after the deal. He stated that this would also translate to freedom in game design and other parts of development.

Therefore, fans can expect similar games from the developer, with the same quality standards as previous releases.

Like many other gaming giants, Tencent has been looking to increase its involvement in the gaming industry. The company has already invested in other publishers and developers, including FromSoftware and Epic Games.

Techland marks Tencent’s latest investment, increasing its hold over the gaming industry. Similar investments have been made by Microsoft as the gaming giant prepares to acquire Activision Blizzard in the coming weeks.

While discussing the Dying Lying franchise, the CEO also said that the studio wants to deliver the ultimate zombie game experience for fans worldwide and push their boundaries of solo and multiplayer modes to a step ahead.

Previously, Techland confirmed a new IP was in development. The studio shared an early artwork highlighting a fantasy open-world setting. This game marks the studio’s first new IP in nearly a decade, and Techland is focused on making it an exceptional title for the fans.
