Payday 3 Dev Confirms Internet Requirement For Single Player

Internet Connection Needed At All Times!

The Payday franchise is returning with exhilarating heists and engaging FPS gameplay. Payday 3 will mark the first entry in the series after several years, leading to plenty of excitement from the fans.

The first teaser for the game was released in the first month of the year. Following the teaser, a gameplay trailer was shown at the Xbox Game Showcase, confirming a September 21 release date for the game.

While most of the information about the game has been positive, a new statement could be poorly received. During a recent livestream, a developer confirmed fans would need a persistent internet connection for Payday 3.

Why it matters: This information is always poorly received. Although more and more games are coming with a requirement for internet connectivity, fans are not happy to lose the freedom to play games offline.

The Payday 3 Producer recently hosted a stream to talk about the game. At one point, a viewer asked if Payday 3 could be played offline for solo gameplay. Replying to the question, the Producer said:

”no. You will be able to play by yourself. but I do believe you need to have a connection in order to play.”

This simply means that players must always be online to play Payday 3. As expected, the clip has received various negative reactions, and fans are disappointed at this decision.

Many players like to enjoy games offline without partnering with online players. However, these players would not be able to enjoy the game in a scenario where the internet goes out.

Recent titles like Redfall and Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League have faced similar criticism for requiring a persistent internet connection. However, Arkane Studios confirmed that it would look into removing the requirement after the backlash.

As such, the recent reactions could mean that Starbreeze Studios may end up making a similar decision and potentially change the requirement.

While these online requirements are not new to the gaming industry, fans have never liked this concept.

In addition to the potential of disrupting gameplay during an internet outage, these requirements also mean that game preservation is made much more challenging. As a result of these conditions, games like Payday 3 would become unplayable if the servers were shut down.
