MicroCenter has just announced the previously rumored Ryzen 5 5600X3D processor. The new processor will only be available at Microcenter for $229. This is the first time AMD and MicroCenter have made a unique arrangement, making the US retailer the only source for the upcoming 3D V-Cache chip for the AM4 platform.
The Ryzen 5 5600X3D, like its predecessor, will come equipped with six cores and 12 threads. However, it will feature a large 96MB of L3 cache. Being a chip supported by the AM4 platform, it will also be cheaper thanks to DDR4 memory.
The Core i5 13400 from Intel is currently the best midrange processor available on the market. That being said, the Ryzen 5 5600X3D will likely take this spot soon.
The new processor will be up for in-store sales only starting 7th July. There is no information on how many units Micro Center will receive from AMD, but the company believes supply should last a few months. The US retailer currently has 25 outlets.
Microcenter will also offer a bundle for those looking to buy the new 3D V-Cache processor. This bundle includes the Ryzen 5 5600X3D with a B550 board, 16 GB 3200 MHz memory, and an AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT graphics card with a 500 GB SSD drive.
Microcenter has the most competitive pricing due to its in-store policy, which is limited to one stock per customer. This will also ensure that everyone can buy the brand-new budget processor.
The Ryzen 5 5600X3D will feature a base and boost frequency of 3.3 GHz and 4.4 GHz, respectively. Frequencies of the new 3D V-Cache chip are lower because of the strict voltage regulations for the 3D V–Cache design.
Aside from that, the TDP of the processor has also been increased to 105W. This is a massive increase from the 65W TDP of the Ryzen 5 5600X. In terms of performance, the new 3D V-Cache chip should perform like the new Ryzen 5 7600X. However, users can enjoy this performance at a lower price.
