Legend of Zelda Movie Coming Up!

Nintendo recently returned to the film industry, bringing its iconic Super Mario Bros franchise to the big screen. Following a massive success, Nintendo hinted at other adaptations in the future.

According to a new leak, Nintendo is now in talks with Universal Pictures for The Legend of Zelda movie franchise.

Why It Matters: Live-action adaptations of gaming franchises have been highly successful in recent years, such as Sonic the Hedgehog and the recently released Mario Bros. A film based on The Legend of Zelda could also succeed, following in their footsteps.

In a podcast on John Rocha’s YouTube channel, Jeff Sneider stated he had received a tip that Universal is finalizing a “big deal” for The Legend of Zelda movie franchise. He said:

“I’m told Universal is closing a big deal with Nintendo Corporation for The Legend of Zelda.”

Sneider also mentioned that the deal would cost Universal a big penny considering the success of their latest film, Super Mario Bros, which grossed over $1 billion at the box office. The movie also achieved the biggest global animated opening of all time.

The producer of the Zelda games previously hinted at the possibility of a live-action movie. In an interview discussing the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Eiji Aonuma said that a Zelda movie could be possible with enough demand from fans.

Judging by the success of the Super Mario Bros movie, fans can rest assured that the Zelda movie will be in good hands. A Zelda movie has also been overdue for quite some time, and fans are likely to see the iconic characters on the big screen at some point.
