Ghost of Tsushima 2 Reportedly Will Not Be At PlayStation Showcase

Don't Expect Ghost of Tsushima 2!

Ghost of Tsushima was a new IP released in 2020 from Sucker Punch Productions. Not much has been said about a potential sequel three years after its release, but PlayStation has just announced a brand new showcase for May 24.

Expectations are at an all-time high for PlayStation’s upcoming slate of titles, but it looks like fans should not expect to see the Ghost of Tsushima sequel at the event.

Why it matters: Games like God of War Ragnarok were released 4 years after their predecessor. With Sucker Punch Productions approaching a similar timeframe since 2020, many have believed the developer would be ready to showcase a sequel to the new IP.

During the latest Game Mess Decides podcast, Jeff Grubb said:

“It doesn’t sound like Ghost of Tsushima 2 will be there.”

Jeff Grubb previously reported on the recent State of Plays and the timeframe for the PlayStation showcase. As such, the leaker has proven to be a reliable source of PlayStation information.

However, this will be surprising to some. Previously, job listings from Sucker Punch Productions strongly suggested that the studio was working on something related to the Ghost of Tsushima franchise.

These listings included references to stealth, melee combat, and an open-world environment. All of these were featured in Ghost of Tsushima and became vital parts of the experience.

Ghost of Tsushima also sold exceptionally well for a new IP. The game had sold nearly 10 million copies in just over two years, making it a hit for Sucker Punch Productions and PlayStation.

Therefore, it might seem odd for PlayStation not to mention the game at all. The developer may be working on a more ambitious sequel than initially expected, which could take a few more years of development.

PlayStation is also partnering with Team Ninja for the upcoming exclusive Rise of The Ronin. This title is set in late 19th century Japan, and the gaming giant may be looking to avoid marketing two somewhat similar games at the same time.

However, Jeff Grubb did not say the IP would not be present at the showcase at all. This means there is still hope for a potential PC port from PlayStation to keep the anticipation around Ghost of Tsushima high for the eventual sequel.
