Capcom's Horror Franchise Is Thriving!

Capcom is among the finest Japanese game developers, with IPs like Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, and Street Fighter. While all of these franchises are successful, Resident Evil is the most prevalent title from Capcom.

With nearly 10 mainline games and several spin-offs, the franchise continues to be popular to this day. In a recent financial report, Capcom revealed Resident Evil has now surpassed over 142 million.

Why it matters: The survival-horror series has seen a huge resurgence with recent remakes and the new direction of Resident Evil 7. As such, the games continue to sell very well.

The latest release, Resident Evil 4 Remake, has already crossed the 4 million sales mark. Additionally, recent games like Resident Evil Village have also sold extremely well, joining the list of best-selling games in the series.

In contrast, the Monster Hunter series has the second-highest sales, with 92 million units. This is followed by Street Fighter, Mega Man, and Devil May Cry, with impressive but lower sales figures.

While not much is known about the future, fans are expecting future remakes from Capcom, with a recent hint pointing toward Resident Evil 5 Remake, and this seems very likely after the success of the recent remake.

The developer is also likely to continue with mainline entries alongside remakes. This should ensure that the franchise can capitalize on its current momentum in order to continue this success.
