Nvidia continues to adjust the price of its GeForce RTX 40 series graphics cards. This time it was the turn of Nvidia’s top model GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition, whose price has been reduced by 9.2% compared to the launch price.
NVIDIA is currently selling the flagship GeForce RTX 4090 for 1,779 euros. This translates into 180 euros of savings in 4 months. Germany’s price on the NVIDIA website is 1,769 euros (vs. €1949 original 2022 MSRP), slightly lower than the rest of the regions.
NVIDIA has reduced the price of its GPUs to promote sales despite its partners’ Custom versions being offered at significantly cheaper costs. Given that the most affordable Custom model starts at 1,759 euros, there aren’t many distinctions between them.
A PNY model costs 20 euros more than the renowned NVIDIA Founders Edition model. The cheapest starts at 1,644 euros in Germany. Therefore, the price of the FE model was already on the higher side.
Of course, the top-of-the-line GPU from NVIDIA is still far more expensive than the top-tier GPU from its rival, AMD. You can buy the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX for 1,150 euros.
This extra cost is not so justified either. This is because the GeForce RTX 4090 is 10% faster than the Radeon RX 7900 XTX at Full HD resolution. The difference is magnified to 17% at 2K/1440p resolution and 22% at 4K/2160p resolution. On the other hand, both graphics cards offer the same memory capacity: 24GB of VRAM.
There are other price justifications, such as NVIDIA DLSS or Ray Tracing. By including Ray Tracing, the NVIDIA GPU is up to 55% faster (4K). When it comes down to it, few people are interested in Ray Tracing due to the sacrifice of performance. In this way, the GeForce RTX 4090 still feels very expensive these times.
