Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remake and Resident Evil 7 are some of the most loved titles in the Resident Evil franchise since the community has given each game a lot of support and overwhelming feedback.
Last year, Capcom introduced the upgraded and enhanced versions of Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 3 Remake, and Resident Evil 7, adding improvements to the games like ray tracing and 3D audio.
However, Capcom just updated the PC versions of the three games, and it appears they might have made a mistake because all three titles now no longer include ray tracing.
Many Steam users turned to the community section and began reporting this problem as they ran into it. These players complained that the games no longer supported ray tracing; some even claimed that HDR was broken.
This could be an error, as there seems to be no reason for them to take this step. It would be strange to downgrade the game post-launch by removing ray tracing, and fans have begun to speculate why this could have happened.
Some reported that the game may have unintentionally switched back to DirectX11, which does not support features added to DirectX12, including ray tracing and 3D audio.
Capcom could also be experimenting with something, but that seems unlikely, and removing ray tracing from all three titles at the same time is not something that would usually be required for such a change.
Furthermore, Capcom has also recently announced that they would be ending technical support for the non-ray traced Direct X11 versions of the Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 3 Remake, and Resident Evil 7 on 12 July 2023.
Capcom stated that they could not guarantee compatibility or operation when using these versions of the games, so it seems that Capcom will only be supporting the Direct X12 versions of these games moving forward.
Speaking of Capcom removing something from the Resident Evil games, Capcom also recently removed Denuvo from Resident Evil Village after two years. It was strange but not surprising, as they are known for removing Denuvo from older titles.
We hope that Capcom receives the information as quickly as possible and fixes the probable error that their latest update of some of the Resident Evil titles has brought about, as it may be upsetting for many fans.
