The Last Of Us Part 1 Bombard With Negative Reviews On Steam

Another Bad Port!

Just a few hours before release, The Last of Us Part 1 had already become the best-selling game on Steam, hinting at the hype for the franchise.

This was the first time Joel and Ellie’s story would be natively playable on PC, and many were excited to play the award-winning franchise.

Unfortunately, The Last of Us Part 1 has failed to meet expectations, with Sony and Iron Galaxy delivering a subpar port for PC. The game has also received criticism on Steam, with over 5000 negative reviews.

From the beginning, The Last of Us Part 1 takes a long time to compile shaders. This can take up to an hour or more, depending on the configuration.

Load times are also incredibly long, even when the game runs on an SSD. The game can load up to a full minute, leading to even more frustration. However, this is just a tiny part of the bigger problem.

The Last of Us Part 1 runs poorly on many modern systems. While the frame rates are not terrible, the title asks for incredibly high amounts of VRAM. Upper-tier graphics cards like the GeForce RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 will not perform well at resolutions like 1440p and 4K without compromises.

Crashing seems to be another big issue, with many users reporting the game is nearly unplayable in its current state. One Steam review reported as many as 14 crashes just a few hours after the game had been released.

Previously, Neil Druckmann claimed The Last of Us Part 1 would come to the Steam Deck. Recent Valve advertisements also led many to believe that the game would be one of the verified titles for the handheld, but the game is far from playable on the Steam Deck.

Steam Deck owners can expect less than 30 frames per second during the more intensive sections, and lowering the settings does not help much since the game appears to be CPU bottlenecked.

On the bright side, Naughty Dog has acknowledged the reports and is looking to issue fixes with a future patch. In the meantime, players can report their problems with the PC version to the developer.
