Steam Will End Supporting Windows 7,8 and 8.1!

Valve released a new Steam Beta Client update for fixing bugs and features, in which Steam also announced that it would drop support to Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 as of January 1, 2024.

On January 13, 2015, support for Windows 7 was officially ended, but Microsoft decided to extend it until January 14, 2020, but OS was still receiving updates by January 10, 2023.

Windows 8, on the other hand, no longer received updates starting January 14, 2016, as it was replaced by Windows 8.1, which did not receive extended support like Windows 7. Windows 8.1 support ended on January 9, 2018, while its upgrade support expired on January 10 of this year, along with Windows 7.

Finally, the end of support for Windows 10 will end on October 14, 2025, so Windows 10 users don’t have to rush to upgrade to Windows 10. Windows 10 is still the most widely used operating system. Steam registered almost 65% last February. Windows 11, its successor, is used by over 33% of Steam users.

Almost no one uses Windows 7, Windows 7 64 bits, and Windows 8.1 anymore since these three do not even add up to 2% of the total Steam users, which is why Valve decided to take the measure that they are no longer compatible with their platform.

And the other reason for this is that the newest features in Steam rely on an embedded version of Google Chrome, which no longer functions on older versions of Windows. In addition, future versions of Steam will require Windows features and security updates only present in Windows 10 and above.
