According to the Steam Hardware survey for Feb-2023, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 40-series graphics cards have finally started showing up on steam charts. However, the market has been relatively slow for the new Nvidia cards.
All three RTX 40-cards combined, including the GeForce RTX 4090, GeForce RTX 4080, and GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, do not even makeup 1% of total systems on steam.
Among the three, the GeForce RTX 4090 has the most users on steam at 0.31%, while the GeForce RTX 4080 and GeForce RTX 4070 Ti are not doing well, with only 0.20% and 0.18%, respectively.
The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti was launched in January, so it’s still early to judge how well the card has been doing compared to the GeForce RTX 4090 and GeForce RTX 4080, which were launched last year.
The slow sales of Nvidia GeForce RTX 40 cards should not come as a surprise. Current generation cards from both Nvidia and AMD are being sold at high prices and do not offer the price to performance value they once used to in most cases — the cheapest Nvidia GeForce RTX 40-cards costs at least $800.
Furthermore, Nvidia remains the dominant competitor on steam charts and currently holds the top spot consisting of xx50 or xx60 series cards.
Sadly AMD does not share the same luck and is nonexistent on steam charts with its current Radeon RX 7000 series. The only popular cards from AMD included in the steam charts are integrated Radeon graphic cards or the much more popular Radeon RX 580 based on Polaris. The GPU market also lacks value cards like the Radeon RX 580 that offer a good gaming experience for just $199 – $229.
Compared to other GeForce RTX 40-cards, the GeForce RTX 4090 is the only option from Nvidia that offers the best value for its price. It’s also why most steam users have invested in one.
