Original Plan Involved A Sequel With Jin Sakai!

Story Highlight
  • As per a report, Sucker Punch initially had plans for a Ghost of Tsushima sequel featuring Jin Sakai.
  • The idea was later gutted and repurposed into Ghost of Yotei, which featured Atsu as the protagonist.
  • PlayStation is reportedly eyeing Yotei as a spin-off instead of a mainline entry.

The announcement of Ghost of Yotei garnered a mixed reception from fans. Some are skeptical about the departure from Jin Sakai, while others look forward to a more modern setting. Even Sony doesn’t seem too happy about the change, either.

Now, a new report suggests that Sucker Punch initially planned to release a Ghost of Tsushima sequel featuring Jin Sakai, but it was later repurposed into Ghost of Yotei

Why it matters: The rumors of a Ghost of Tsushima sequel had been surfacing for a long time. So, it was largely surprising for the fans when Sucker Punch revealed the sequel, and it didn’t involve Jin Sakai.

This rumor comes from the YouTuber Endymion, who claims that Ghost of Yotei was initially Ghost of Tsushima 2, with Jin returning as the protagonist. But Sucker Punch later gutted the whole narrative and used Atsu instead for a whole different story.

The entire narrative was effectively gutted from what I’m being told and repurposed into the story about Atsu, now, as you’ve seen in the new trailer.

He assumes that the plot would’ve seen Jin going to Mount Yotei and facing a Mongol threat there, but things changed in the last 2 years. Sucker Puncher reportedly hired a few individuals in the later stages of Yotei’s development, almost as if something had changed later on.

He further stated that Sony is currently deciding on a price for Yotei. It reportedly wants to treat the game as a spin-off and keep Jin for the next mainline story. In addition, the source also revealed that the Ghost of Yotei might face a delay.

Multiple sources have confirmed to Endymion that the game could be pushed to 2026. If all this is true, Jin Sakai’s return is still inevitable with a new game. It will also be really interesting to see how the fans react to this news.
