Capcom has been very successful with the recent releases of Resident Evil. While no official announcement has been made yet, an insider has previously suggested that the developers are working on Resident Evil 9, which will be announced soon.
Though this entry was expected to arrive next year, the same insider has now stated that Capcom has delayed the game. He states that it will now launch in late 2025 or early 2026.
Why it matters: Resident Evil 9 is said to be trying different concepts for the franchise as the developer prepares to try an attempt at open-world survival horror.
One of the most reliable leakers in the industry, Dusk Golem, has just made a tweet revealing information about many Resident Evil franchise projects.
The leaker has suggested that while the developers were targeting an early 2025 launch for Resident Evil 9, they may not be pursuing the same plans anymore. He believes the game has been pushed back.

Not too long ago, it was reported that Resident Evil 9 faced an internal delay at Capcom.
The game is said to be this IP’s most ambitious title to date, so the studio may be looking to give it a bit more time than usual. Dusk Golem previously suggested that a reveal was inevitable sometime in 2024.
However, with the game unlikely to arrive for at least one more year, the reveal could also be pushed back.
Capcom seems to be juggling multiple projects, so a delay to Resident Evil 9 sounds about right.
The studio has already teased a remake of Resident Evil 5, while various rumors and reports have pointed to other remakes and spin-offs. Therefore, this may be one reason the next mainline entry is taking longer than expected.
Still, Capcom has been delivering back-to-back hits for this series, so audiences are likely to be more than willing to let this delay slide in hopes of another excellent release.
