Xbox Seems To Have Fully Abandoned Physical Media

Cronos: The New Dawn Won't Get A Physical Release on Series S|X!

Story Highlight
  • It was previously hinted that Xbox has stopped selling the physical disc of video games.
  • Further proof of the gaming giant abandoning physical media has appeared.
  • Cronos: The New Dawn will not be available on a physical disc for Xbox Series S|X.

Some time ago, Xbox changed its strategy in order to survive in the gaming market. It is well-known that the gaming giant has been struggling to sell consoles for some time now, which is concerning for the parent company, Microsoft.

That is precisely why the parent company decided to make it a subscription-based business. We can already see the company focusing more on Game Pass than anything else, as it is also completely abandoning physical media

Why it matters: Fans love physical discs because that way they can have a collection, or they can exchange them with other games. While the industry may be moving more toward digital media, the love for physical may never cease to exist

Previously, it was reported that Xbox had quietly stopped selling physical disc games, which was a significant concern among the fandom. However, that report wasn’t enough to establish a solid foundation for belief

However, it has just been revealed that the upcoming horror title from Bloober Team, Cronos: The New Dawn, will not have a physical release on the Xbox Series S|X.

The developer has signed a major contract with Bandai Namco for the distribution of the game on PS5 and PC in Europe, the Middle East, and Australia. It should also be noted that in North and South America, Skybound Games will publish the PS5 physical copies

The production of a boxed version of the game and the distribution of the Issuer’s game “Cronos: The New Dawn” on PlayStation 5 and PC platforms in Europe, the Middle East and Australia by Bandai Namco.

-Contract

The contract does not mention any information about the physical media of Xbox Series S|X. Therefore, it is fair to assume that Xbox has abandoned physical media

You may also notice that more and more games are not getting physical releases on Xbox consoles, as it appears to be part of a plan to attract more consumers to Game Pass. The gaming giant has also received a lot of heat for pricing Outer Worlds 2 at $80, but it will release day one on Game Pass, which is also pretty fishy.

What do you think about this new strategy from Xbox? Do you think it is fair for the gaming giant to stop selling physical media of games quietly? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below or join the official Tech4Gamers forums for discussion.
