- CDPR admits that combat in The Witcher 4 needs to be improved over The Witcher 3.
- The RPG is currently aiming to portray an intense and emotionally impactful monster-hunting experience.
- CDPR states that fans can expect the gameplay to portray choreography and intensity similar to the reveal trailer.
CDPR has been quite open about its goals with The Witcher 4 recently. Following an exciting first look, the team has discussed Ciri’s role as the protagonist, the scope of the RPG, and more.
CDPR also confirmed that The Witcher 4 will be quite an ambitious project. In fact, it will address multiple weaknesses present in The Witcher 3, one of which was the core combat, according to CDPR.
Why it matters: The Witcher 3, despite its incredible reputation, was not a flawless RPG. Even when it was released as a brand-new title, die-hard fans admitted that the combat left a lot to be desired.
During a recent interview, The Witcher 4 director Sebastian Kalemba was asked about specific gameplay elements from the last entry that the team considers weak. The director was quick to point out that the gameplay and monster-hunting experience are key areas that need major improvements.
We want to tighten up the gameplay and the experience of monster hunting.
-Sebastian Kalemba
As per the director, The Witcher 4’s reveal trailer was meant to portray a sense of heft and impact to the monster combat. This portrayal also extends to the choreography and emotional charge.
A major overhaul to combat was already expected for The Witcher 4, but fans will be glad to know that CDPR is well aware of the areas that need the most improvements over past Witcher titles.
The same improvements will likely be iterated upon in future titles since Ciri is set to star as the protagonist in a full trilogy of Witcher games.
