Why I Think Lost Legacy’s Gameplay Was Better Than Uncharted 4

Claim That Long Lost Legacy!

Story Highlights
  • Uncharted: The Lost Legacy outshines Uncharted 4 with its action-packed gameplay from the very beginning.
  • Its focused exploration in the stunning Western Ghats of India offers a breathtaking adventure.
  • With their engaging banter and combat skills, Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross’s dynamic duo elevate the gameplay immensely.

The Uncharted series has carved its place in gaming history with its tower-swinging adventures, charismatic characters, and action-packed sequences that had the cinematic masterpieces of Uncharted 2 and the immense adventures of Uncharted 3

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End marked a new chapter for the series. However, while the story and visuals were compelling, the gameplay took a backseat, in my opinion, with a slower pace and a more significant emphasis on character development.

This is where Uncharted: The Lost Legacy shines. Taking place after the events of Uncharted 4, it features Chloe Frazer, the female Nathan Drake from the series, as the protagonist.

Lost Legacy retains the core gameplay elements that make Uncharted so much fun: thrilling combat, intricate puzzles, and breathtaking exploration. But it also elevates fresh energy and action, which makes The Lost Legacy’s gameplay a superior experience.

Why It Matters: The Lost Legacy delivers more action-oriented gameplay than its predecessor, proving that the franchise can thrive with fresh characters and thrilling adventures.

Action Right From The Beginning

Honestly, Uncharted 4 took its time to set up. It felt like watching a movie at first. It had a compelling story but it took too many hours of narrative setting and character development before the real adventure kicked in.

On the other hand, Lost Legacy’s Gameplay throws you straight into the action. Within minutes, Chloe Frazer is beating the heck out of Asav’s soldiers while trying to find the disc. It’s a non-stop adrenaline rush from the opening scene.

Focused Fun: One Incredible Location

I loved the massive scope of Uncharted 4, hopping from Scotland to Madagascar. But there’s something to be said for the focused approach of Lost Legacy. Set in the lush Western Ghats of India, the game lets you explore one stunning region in detail. You’ll traverse the Hoysala Empire, uncovering hidden temples with intricate water puzzles.

Instead of jumping between disconnected locations, you get to know this vibrant land, with its breathtaking mountain ranges and the iconic statues of Indian Gods. It’s a testament to Naughty Dog’s ability to create a world where you want to lose yourself.

Open World Exploration: A New Level of Freedom

While Lost Legacy isn’t a full-fledged open-world game, it does offer a taste of freedom that Uncharted 4 lacked. The Western Ghats region is a massive playground with collectibles and hidden treasures.

It’s a joy to explore at your own pace, whether hunting for Hoysala tokens scattered throughout the landscape, testing your driving skills in a jeep through the muddy terrain, or simply enjoying the stunning scenery from the top of an ancient statue.

Frazer and Nadine’s Explosive Character

While I have a soft spot for the adorable Nathan Drake, Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross make a genuinely unforgettable duo. They’re both fierce, independent women with their own agendas. Their interactions perfectly blend humor, tension, and mutual respect, whether bantering about Chloe’s lock-picking skills or Nadine’s military past with Shoreline.

Watching their relationship evolve as they navigate the dangerous ruins of Halebidu and outsmart Asav‘s ruthless insurgents is a game highlight. Plus, they’re both experts in combat, making for some seriously badass action sequences, like that epic train fight.

A Hint of Humor: Sam Drake’s Unexpected Entry

Sam Drake‘s surprise appearance in Lost Legacy was a curveball. Here, things get interesting. Sam, captured by Asav, is spotted by Nadine through binoculars. Let’s just say there’s no love lost between Nadine and Sam, thanks to their history in Uncharted 4.

Chloe reveals that Sam and her were working together to act as a decoy for Asav. The tension is high as Nadine confronts Chloe, with fists flying. Despite the initial chaos, Sam’s presence injects humor into the story. His usual impulsive personality provides lighthearted moments as they work together later, elevating the gameplay even more.

Final Words

Lost Legacy’s Gameplay just edges out its predecessor in pure action and enjoyment. Its focused setting, engaging characters, and non-stop action, from the opening sequence to the final showdown with Asav, make for an unforgettable adventure that leaves you wanting more.

Thankfully, with an Uncharted remake confirmed in development, fans craving those remakes will finally be able to enjoy these action-packed adventures again.
