Uncharted Now The Best Tomb Raider Game?

Story Highlights
  • The Tomb Raider franchise has not received a new game in five years.
  • A mod for Uncharted: The Lost Legacy adds Lara Croft to the game, effectively serving as a new game for this character.
  • The mod also adds extras like additional skins and outfits.

Five years after 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider, a new Tomb Raider game is currently in the works. With Amazon and Crystal Dynamics partnering for this project, expectations are high for Lara Croft’s next adventure.

Fans are growing restless with the wait, but a new mod for Uncharted: The Lost Legacy can act as a substitute for those looking to get their Tomb Raider fix.

Why it matters: The modern Tomb Raider games are quite similar to the Uncharted titles since they feature similar types of narrative elements and action-based set pieces. Therefore, this mod is quite fitting for Lara Croft.

Over on Nexus Mods, Lara Croft has been added to the game, and she feels right at home in the Uncharted universe.

The mod replaces Chloe Frazer with the classic versions of Lara Croft, allowing fans to experience this popular Naughty Dog title through a fresh perspective. Modder Swiz 19 has added four costumes for the character and two additional hairstyles for more diversity.

These outfits are a nod to the older Tomb Raider games, though some may be disappointed by the lack of a modern outfit from Crystal Dynamics’ trilogy. The video above shows a 40-minute breakdown detailing this project.

Looking at the footage, all the animations and gameplay segments appear to work well, essentially creating a new Tomb Raider game. Still, the mod is not without its limitations. For example, gear other than the dual pistols is not visible when holstered.

Tomb Raider

The most striking aspect of the mod has to be the fact that everything feels so natural. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is already an excellent game, and adding Lara Croft to this adventure makes it even better.

Since 2013, the Tomb Raider reboot has earned many comparisons with Uncharted, so modern fans should find this style of gameplay quite familiar.

Apart from the biggest additions, the mod allows fans to change the color of the jeep from red to blue, making it similar to 1999’s Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation.

For those who prefer the more vanilla Tomb Raider experience, however, the original trilogy was recently remastered for new consoles. A new announcement for Crystal Dynamic’s next game was also teased recently, so fans should keep an eye out for more information.
