The Guardians Of The Galaxy Game Made Me Love The Franchise

Expert Verified By

A game that truly represents the franchise.

Story Highlights
  • Guardians of the Galaxy is a game that almost perfectly captures the franchise’s essence.
  • The theme, gameplay, and storytelling are all amazing and match the vibe of the franchise.
  • The best part about the game is the super attack, which, when triggered, boosts your abilities, and a banger song plays in the background while you beat up the enemies.

Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the most beloved Marvel franchises. Its popularity began to rise with the release of the 2014 movie. The franchise is mainly popular due to its hilarious characters and humor.

The 2021 Guardians of the Galaxy game brought those characters into the world of video games, and it turned out pretty well. I already liked the franchise, but after playing the game, I became uniquely attached to all the characters and the franchise’s theme.

There are several reasons why I became a fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy because of this game.

Aesthetic Vibe

The first reason is the vibe of the game. I have seen this franchise’s futuristic outer space vibe in the movies, but it differs from roaming and interacting with them in those environments. From the very start of the game, we get aesthetically pleasing locations.

Every location is intensely futuristic but still delivers the vibe of naturally rich aesthetics. As we progress in the game, we see many other planets, each having a unique vibe.

Amazing Visuals

The incredible graphics are just the cherry on top, as they boost the visuals by a considerable margin. The color scheme has also been looked upon pretty well. The game can get bright and dark wherever it needs to, and the visuals, in both cases, remain top-tier.

Other than the visuals, the music in the game was half the reason why this game had an incredible vibe. The playlist consisted of top hits from the 1980s, which fits well if you know the franchise’s theme.

Decent Storytelling

The storytelling and character development are also decent. The start of the game felt a bit slow regarding the story, and it wasn’t obvious where it was leading. But after a while, the story became more and more enjoyable.

The flashback sequences from Peter Quill’s past injected much drama into the story, which I didn’t expect. However, they increased the depth of the story, which affected it positively. These flashback sequences helped a lot in Peter Quill’s character development.

The side characters were also handled pretty well. Every character got enough screen time and was portrayed like in the movies. And as the game is longer than all three Guardians of the Galaxy movies combined, each character gets extra screen time, allowing them to grow on the player.

Other aspects of the franchise, like the classic humor, were also there but needed some work. There were fewer jokes, and it felt like they didn’t intend to sound funny. They were still hilarious but not on the level of the jokes that we are used to hearing in the franchise’s movies.

Incredible Gameplay

The game is incredible in terms of gameplay, as well. You play as Peter Quill, AKA Star-Lord, alongside your teammates, Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot. The animations initially felt clunky, but I got used to it.

The enemies you fight, the environment you fight them in, and how all the action takes place are combined amazingly. You have to fight several different kinds of unique creatures. You have different abilities to take them down, which aren’t available at first, but they get unlocked as you progress in the game.

You can also call each member of your teammates to assist you in fighting the enemies. Each team member has four different abilities, which you can ask them to utilize to remove the pointed-out enemies. Each team member has four different abilities, which you can ask them to utilize to take down the pointed-out enemies.

The best part for me in the gameplay section is the super attack that you can trigger. This superattack stops the action for a moment. Star lord gathers his teammates to say some hilariously motivating lines, and then the action continues with an 80s song playing in the background.
