Starfield’s Mod Community Is Almost Dead In Comparison To Other Bethesda Games

Starfield Has Already Been Forgotten!

Story Highlight
  • Starfield’s mod community has plummeted massively since the game’s release, a result vastly different from other Bethesda games.
  • The game initially boasted about six million downloads and over 5 million uploaded files; the figures are now down half a million at best.
  • Games like Fallout 3 and 4, Skyrim, and Oblivion did much better in their first two years, boasting many downloads and files.

Starfield was one of the most anticipated launches of 2023, but it failed to make the impression both Bethesda and gamers wanted. While the studio has promised massive plans for 2025 with ‘exciting updates,’ it is clear that interest in the RPG is long gone.

A detailed comparison between Starfield and other Bethesda games further confirms this belief. The game’s mod community is as good as dead now, despite having a decent start when pitted against other Bethesda works.

Why it matters: Starfield’s modding scene dropping so low indicates how gamers have felt about the game since its launch.

The comparison on the Starfield Reddit page reveals that the game initially had six million downloads and over 5 million mods uploaded after its release. This figure has dropped to less than half a million downloads, and new mods are being uploaded.

While these numbers seem solid, other Bethesda games, such as Skyrim (5.6M downloads) and Fallout 4 (3M downloads), performed far better on Nexus Mods in their first two years.

An ex-Starfield designer has credited the tough AAA industry with this downfall. However, another developer also said interest in the 100-hour RPGs is gone. Gamers on the Reddit post argue that Starfield is just not as fun as older Bethesda releases.

Even Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 has expressed interest in defeating Starfield’s player count.

At the moment, Starfield is rumored to be one of the next big Xbox exclusives to go multiplatform this year. Bethesda has also accepted the RPG’s flaws and claimed its sequel will be a much better experience.
