Starfield Is The ‘Hardest And Best Game’ Bethesda Has Ever Made, Says Dev

'Pulling Off Starfield Was A Technical Marvel'

Story Highlight
  • Bethesda dev says that Starfield is the hardest and the best game the company has ever made.
  • For the team, it sits in the same spot as some of their prized IPs like Fallout and The Elder Scrolls.
  • Starfield just got its first DLC release, but even then, the impressions amongst fans aren’t that positive.

Starfield was supposed to be Microsft’s answer to everyone who claimed Microsoft didn’t have good games. However, after so much anticipation, the game didn’t sit well with most of the audience, and the overall reviews were quite underwhelming.

Despite the lackluster release, a Bethesda developer has stated that Starfield is the hardest game they’ve ever worked on and the studio’s best work ever.

Why it matters: Starfield has a massive scope and hundreds of planets. So, it is understandable that the game development would take a lot of effort, but Bethesda does have better games than the latter in its roster.

Bethesda puts Starfield right up with its other popular franchises

Talking to GamesRadar, Starfield lead designer Emil Pagliarulo admitted that Starfield isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. But he still thinks that it is Bethesda’s most ambitious project to date and the best work it has ever done

I think in a lot of ways, Starfield is the hardest thing Bethesda has ever done. It’s also the best game we’ve ever made.

Given the game’s scale, it is believable that Bethesda found it challenging to develop. For the team, it is some sort of a technical marvel that they pulled it off. Paglirulo also revealed that it is right up there with its most popular franchises The Elder Scrolls and Fallout.

Despite Bethesda’s praise of Starfield, it didn’t receive much of a positive reception. It did sell well, so the company made a lot of revenue, but the general consensus around the title remained underwhelming.

With the launch of the Shattered Space DLC, things were supposed to change. While it has received some positive reviews from critics, the overall score on Metacritic is just 54 with most negative reviews saying that it doesn’t bring anything new to the table.
