Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the first Spider-Man game built for the PS5, made without compromise. The first gameplay reveal accumulated nearly 20 million views, showing the hype for the title, and Summer Game Fest also confirmed an October 20 release date.
Furthermore, Summer Game Fest gave fans a look at an artwork featuring Venom, and Insomniac Games confirmed additional details about the villain. According to the developer, Venom will not be Peter Parker or Eddie Brock.
Venom’s identity is, for now, a secret, but his identity will be a massive part of the main storyline.
Why it matters: Eddie Brock has traditionally played the role of Venom, but Insomniac Games appears to be taking a different approach.
The new art confirms that Peter Parker and Miles Morales are fighting Venom. Now that Insomniac Games has confirmed that Peter or Eddie Brock will not play the villain’s role, Venom is likely to be Harry Osborn.
Previously, Marvel’s Spider-Man teased that Harry Osborn would become Venom as he needed the symbiote after he was slowly dying. However, Insomniac Games is being a little secretive about the identity of Venom, so it would not be surprising to see another twist in the narrative.
The Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 gameplay trailer also revealed that Peter had access to the symbiote. This may suggest that Peter took the symbiote from Harry, leading to exciting possibilities for the story.
Nonetheless, Venom will be a significant part of the story, and Insomniac Games aims to provide a thrilling narrative fitting the iconic villain.
Marvel’s Spdier-Man 2 will feature 2x the map size compared to the previous game. The game will also include instant switching between Miles Morales and Peter Parker, even during free roam. With Venom’s inclusion, Insomniac Games may also incorporate horror elements in the title.
