Spider-Man 2 Launches To 3x Lower Concurrent Player Count Than Predecessor on PC

One of PlayStation's Worst-Performing PC Ports!

Story Highlight
  • Spider-Man 2 has only managed to reach 24K concurrent players on Steam.
  • This player count is significantly lower than the 66K players reached by the original Spider-Man.
  • PlayStation’s poor marketing and underwhelming PC port seem to have hurt its latest release.

Spider-Man 2 is now available on PC, but the game seems to have failed to live up to its predecessor. In addition to a shockingly low-quality port, this PC release has not been able to measure up to past player counts.

At present, Spider-Man 2 has managed to reach just over one-third of the first title’s Steam concurrent players.

Why it matters: It was already noted that PlayStation’s marketing ahead of this release was lacking in more than one way. The player counts show that the game is certainly suffering as a result of poor marketing.

According to SteamDB, Spider-Man 2 peaked at around 24K players on PC. This figure was even lower during the first 24 hours, but it still shows a notable decline compared to the original Spider-Man.

For context, Insomniac’s previous title peaked at over 66K players immediately after release. This figure is nearly 3x higher, showing a shocking decline that puts the new PC port more in line with Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

This standalone entry managed to hit around 13K concurrent Steam players at its peak. While Spider-Man 2 is still in a better position, its player count is certainly disappointing, considering the fact that its predecessor was among PlayStation’s biggest hits on the platform.

Insomniac Sold Millions of Copies on PS5 Already

Because the weekend has just arrived, Insomniac’s latest release could still gather more players over the next two days. However, it seems unlikely for the title to measure up to the rest of PlayStation’s PC offerings at this point.

Perhaps future discounts will be Insomniac’s best bet if the studio hopes to entice more players toward a purchase. Also, the regional Steam restrictions should be lifted soon, providing a potential opportunity to gain more sales.
