Samsung has come a long way from the days of the first Galaxy Fold. While the first phone came with a slew of issues, it was revolutionary in many ways. Since then, Samsung has continued to refine the formula to ensure that the Galaxy Fold is the premium smartphone of choice for many customers. As the newest iteration of the Galaxy Fold nears release, rumors about the device have been spreading like wildfire.

A new report has hinted at a new hinge design for the phone. Twitter user TheGalox has been known to reliably provide insider information on tech in the past. The user has now reported on what could be a new innovation in the Galaxy Fold lineup of smartphones.

In prior versions of the phone, a dual-hinge design was used by Samsung (the hinge is mounted on each side of the screen to be folded). However, they will be switching to a single hinge with Samsung Galaxy Fold 4. This will reduce some of the weight of the bulky device and could even end up being a way to reduce costs for Samsung. The tweet below also shows an image of the older hinge, giving us an idea of what to expect from the new iteration.

Furthermore, the new phone is rumored to come with many spec upgrades. Improvements to the under-display camera and a new Snapdragon 8 Gen1+ processor are among the upgrades predicted to be coming to the phone.

Smartphone leaks are usually very accurate, but it would be wise to take this information with a grain of salt. Samsung has not officially announced the Fold 4, but rumors seem to be pointing at an August release date for the brand new foldable phone; if we compare the launch month with previous models of the same lineup;

  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold – September 2019
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 – September 2020
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 – August 2021
